Attorney V. Aislee Smith is the Founding Member, Chief Executive Officer and Senior Tax Attorney of TaxConcepts, LLC. His unparalleled substantive knowledge of tax law, corporate law, and business finance combined with his unique practical insights into the political and public policy driven nuances of the Internal Revenue Service, establishes a new paradigm for tax law practice with TaxConcepts. Attorney Smith orchestrates a comprehensive and concurrent analysis of the personal, business and financial activities of each client to not only ensure tax compliance, but implementation of tax strategies.
Attorney Smith obtained a Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in finance from Morehouse College. Thereafter, he received a Jurist Doctor Degree from Howard University School of Law, where he served as Second Year Class President; Associate Editor of the Howard Law Journal; and initiated public service projects for volunteer tax preparation. As a law student, Attorney Smith developed a passion for the law of taxation and subsequently accepted a prestigious Fellowship with the Internal Revenue Service and Georgetown University Law Center. While employed with the Internal Revenue Service, Attorney Smith simultaneously pursued and was conferred a Master of Laws in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center.
During his tenure with the Internal Revenue Service – National Headquarters, Attorney Smith specialized in Internal Revenue Code §501(c)(3) tax exempt law; and garnered invaluable experience in the Municipal Bonds and Healthcare tax divisions. After serving over a decade with the Service, Attorney Smith expanded his craft in the private corporate sector with PricewaterhouseCoopers and Ernst & Young, LLP.
While with Ernst & Young and PricewaterhouseCoopers, Attorney Smith was appointed Regional Manager of the New Jersey, New York and Connecticut offices’ tax operations. In this capacity, he supervised a staff of lawyers and accountants in servicing prestigious multi-million dollar tax-exempt clients including: The Catholic Church, Greenwich Hospital, Mount Sinai Hospital, Beth Israel Hospital, and the Manhattan YMCA.
Attorney Smith was an Adjunct Professor at Rutgers University where he taught Tax-Exempt Organizations in the Masters of Tax Program. Currently, he travels frequently as a lecturer at seminars and conferences. He recently penned his first book: “Jesus Don’t Work for the IRS” which was self-published and released on September 27, 2012. Additionally, he is the author of several legal publications including: Continuing Legal Education Article on Refund Bonds in the Tax-Exempt Bonds Area; THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA COURT OF APPEALS STUDENT PROJECT: A SURVEY OF RECENT CASE LAW, PART FIVE – COMPENSATION; Scope of Cross Examination. 32 How. L.J. 377 (1989); and The Amalgamated Charitable Tax Theory (May 1996).
Born in Casablanca, Morocco, Attorney Smith considers himself a native of the state of Georgia. For relaxation, Attorney Smith cherishes family time with his wife and their young son. Recreationally, he immensely enjoys golfing, skiing, and international travel.
